Some of you have already checked this out but eh, why not share the link one more time for those who didn't see it earlier. During the summer, while I was studying Arabic in the Critical Language Scholarship program here in Cairo, my awesome roommate and classmate Melodee Baines & I were able to attend a human rights press conference at the Egyptian Center for Human Rights.
The panel at the July 27 press conference included:
Georges Assaf, Board Member, World Organization against Torture
Hugo Gabbero, Human Rights Defenders desk, International Federation for Human Rights
Hafez Abo Seada, Secretary General, Egyptian Organization for Human Rights
Reine Alapini- Gansou, Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Defenders, Commission of the African Union for Human and People's Rights
The press conference referenced the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights' latest Annual Report, which discusses that in inverse proportion to the fall of the stock exchanges, the inflation of freedom-killing practices and laws relating to the control of the social body was one of the significant characteristics of the problems encountered by human rights defenders
in 2008.
