While international opinion has become increasingly critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his dealings with the Gaza flotilla crisis, it's important to see how his stock is holding up domestically. A new poll of Israeli public opinion finds that 75% of the Jewish-Israeli respondents say "Israel should not open the Gaza Strip to international aid shipments." Although narrower, a solid majority still feel Israel should now allow an international investigation or even engage with the international community to better the Israeli reputation abroad.
Netanyahu's job approval rating has climbed to 53%, while a sizeable 40% are dissatisfied with his performance. The clincher is that although President Barack Obama has limited the US's reaction to the flotilla crisis and didn't join the international community in reprimanding Israel for its aggressive behavior in international waters, 71% of respondents said they were dissatisfied with Obama and 63% were dissatisfied with the US's reaction to the crisis. Unbelievable!
