I guess I should write about baseball since the World Series, or as I would like to call it this year, Satan's Series, is upon us. While I have been a Red Sox fan since 2003, I should channel my childhood here and mention that I grew up as Mets fan (my aunt lived and still lives right by Shea Stadium and I spent 12 years of my life in Queens, NYC). One thing that unites these 2 teams is a mutual hatred for the Yankees. I will ALWAYS despise this team, don't get me started (although my hatred for the Lakers I think is stronger). An article in the NY Times discusses the current suffering of numerous Mets fans:
"But the misery of this uninspired season has been unexpectedly heightened by the indignity of watching their most despised division rival face off against their despised crosstown rival in the World Series."
Hey at least in basketball the Celtics are doing their thing even while I support from afar (you have no idea how painful it is to be unable to watch the games). Last night's season opener in Cleveland demonstrated how awesome my team is, where Lebron's 38 points still wasn't enough to keep the Cavs from giving up it's home-court advantage (they won 39/41 teams at home last season). While I am disappointed w/ Big Baby's thumb escapade which could result in a possible suspension, it's great to see how the entire team pulled together for a great win. Rasheed had 12 points in 24 minutes, Pierce was his usual MVP self w/ 23 points and my beloved Allen pulled through w/ 16 points. Garnett totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds in his first game after missing the final 9 regular-season games and the playoffs last season with a knee injury.
Sorry Shaq, “It’s still fairly a new team — we’re still learning each other” just doesn't cut it. Why didn't Rasheed use that excuse? And no Lebron, you are not THAT hot where you can write a book about yourself even though you have not won a SINGLE championship.
